Oregon transfer Austin Novosad takes over as the starter after years as a backup. He is mobile and has a strong arm, and the Falcons will lean on him to lead an offense that ran the ball 62% of the time last season. Running back Austyn Dendy, who rushed for 100-plus yards in three straight games to end 2025, is the top returning rusher and has a shot at 1,000 yards. The offensive line is completely rebuilt with only two players having starting experience, so protection and run blocking will be key early.
The Falcons return a strong front six led by defensive end Myles Bradley and defensive tackle Eriq George, who combined for nine sacks last season. Middle linebacker Dorian Pringle was off to a fast start in 2025 before a season-ending injury in Week 3, and he has All-MAC potential if healthy. Purdue transfer Sanders Ellis adds depth. This group can pressure quarterbacks and stop the run, but the secondary is thin with only safety Kal-El Pascal returning as a starter.
Safety Kal-El Pascal is the only returning starter in the secondary after leading the team with 80 tackles last season. Cornerback JoJo Johnson is projected to start after leading the MAC with 13 pass breakups in 2025, but there is little proven depth behind them. Opponents may target the Falcons through the air, especially if the pass rush does not get home consistently.
The Falcons will rely on walk-on placekicker Travis Kenner, which is a risk in close games. Punter Ryan Kingston averaged 41 yards per punt at FCS Southeast Missouri State and was second-team All-OVC, so the punting game should be solid. Field goal and extra point reliability will be something to watch as the season progresses.
Head coach Eddie George enters his second season with several unknowns but a potentially elite quarterback in Novosad. The running game has a dependable back, but the offensive line and secondary are unproven. An opposing MAC assistant noted that having a quarterback who does not turn the ball over can make a team competitive in the MAC. A bowl game is the realistic ceiling if the offensive line gels and the defense stays healthy.
