Boston College's defensive front, while not as talented as App State's, still presents a significant challenge for an FCS offensive line that has yet to prove it can hold up against FBS competition. If Maine cannot protect Buehler or open running lanes, the offense will stall repeatedly, putting the defense in bad positions and allowing Boston College to pull away.

Maine's secondary was torched by App State's Malachi Singleton, who threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns on 22-of-24 passing in just the first half. The Black Bears ranked 110th nationally in pass defense last season, allowing 8.2 yards per attempt, and lost their top cornerback to graduation. Boston College, even with a 1-1 record, has enough talent at receiver to exploit Maine's young corners. Expect the Eagles to test Maine deep early and often, similar to how App State attacked en route to a 31-0 halftime lead. This mismatch could lead to another lopsided score.

After traveling over 900 miles to Boone, North Carolina, for the season opener, Maine makes a much shorter 217-mile trip to Chestnut Hill. The reduced travel and normal seven-day rest should help the Black Bears be more prepared and less fatigued than they were in Week 1. However, Boston College still holds a home-field advantage, and Maine has not won a road game against an FBS opponent since 2019. While the proximity may keep the game from being a total blowout, it does not close the significant talent gap between the two programs.

The market has installed Boston College as a massive favorite and gives Maine essentially no chance to win. While the talent disparity and Maine's poor showing against App State support a lopsided result, the line may be inflated by public perception. Boston College is only 1-1 and has not looked dominant, and Maine's shorter travel and extra week of preparation could lead to a slightly more competitive game than the market expects. The market is heavily favoring Boston College, but there is a modest case for Maine to keep it closer than the number suggests, though a win is highly unlikely.

Ted Roof's unit held Cincinnati to 139 first-half yards before wearing down, then forced four AJ Surace interceptions and stopped Rutgers three times on fourth down deep in BC territory. Maine's offense is far below both of those levels, so the Eagles should control this game defensively. The caveat is that the same defense allowed 255 rushing yards to Cincinnati and gave up a 60-yard touchdown to Rutgers, so the market's assumption of a shutout-level performance is more optimistic than the film supports.

McKenzie ran for 78 yards on 20 carries against Cincinnati and added a 10-yard scoring run plus a 78-yard touchdown pass to Pough against Rutgers. Maine does not have the team speed to contain a dual-threat quarterback or a receiver who got ten yards behind the Rutgers secondary. Expect O'Brien to script early McKenzie runs and play-action shots to Pough and Kaelan Chudzinski to build a lead before the backups take over.

Kahoun was taken off the field by ambulance in the second quarter against Rutgers and his status is uncertain. Anthony Palano and Justin Medlock played well in his absence, but the linebacker rotation was already rebuilt entirely through the portal and lacks depth. Against Maine this is manageable, but it is a real concern for the ACC schedule ahead and could mean more snaps for unproven bodies if the game gets out of hand early.

BC is home for the second straight week with extra rest after the Friday Rutgers game, facing an FCS opponent with a power rating far below any team the Eagles have played. The market has this as one of the largest spreads of BC's season and gives Maine essentially no chance. The only caution is that BC has not yet shown it can blow out anyone: the Rutgers win was a one-score game into the final minutes and the Cincinnati loss was a 19-point defeat.

Lombardo was nearly perfect on field goals last season and remains one of the best kickers in the ACC. If Maine's defense stiffens in the red zone early, BC can bank points with Lombardo while the offense finds its rhythm. TJ Green and Isaiah Farris also give the Eagles return upside that Maine cannot match, which is a hidden edge in a game where the market expects a lopsided score.
