Colgate's defense showed heart and managed to pressure Syracuse quarterback Steve Angeli throughout the game, but ultimately could not contain the Orange's high-powered offense, which amassed 620 total yards and 66 points.

After trailing 45-10 late in the third quarter, Colgate's offense showed moxie in the second half, with backup quarterback Jake Stearney completing 14 of 20 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns, both to Reed Swanson.

Wide receiver Treyvhon Saunders continued his strong season with 11 receptions for 105 yards, bringing his season totals to 34 catches and 465 yards, making him a key offensive weapon for the Raiders.

Colgate entered the game after losing their first two contests by a combined 10 points, but were clearly outmatched by Syracuse, falling to 0-3 and highlighting the gap between FCS and FBS competition.

Colgate will look to rebound when they host Fordham on September 20, aiming to build on their second-half offensive improvements and tighten their defense to secure their first win of the season.

Steve Angeli threw for 417 yards and 5 touchdowns, adding a rushing TD to tie Jim Brown and Eric Dungey for most TDs in a game by a Syracuse player. The offense amassed 620 total yards, with 447 through the air, and 12 different players caught passes, showcasing deep playmaking depth.

Despite the blowout win, Syracuse allowed 408 yards to an FCS opponent, and the offensive line struggled with pass protection, pressuring Angeli throughout. These issues are a significant worry heading into ACC play, where competition will be much tougher.

Syracuse recorded back-to-back games of at least 400 yards for the first time in program history, indicating a potent and consistent attack. However, this came against weaker opponents, and the true test begins next week.

The easy part of the schedule is over. Syracuse faces Clemson next week, followed by four preseason top-25 teams and six bowl-eligible teams from last season. The team's performance against Colgate does little to inspire confidence for this brutal stretch.

Freshman Demetres Samuel Jr., who started at cornerback, also caught a pass and fielded a punt, showing versatility similar to Travis Hunter. His development could be a key factor for depth and playmaking on both sides of the ball.
