Tulane Green Wave SP+ Profile

Offence+22.299 of 138higher is better
Defence+28.387 of 138lower is better
Special teams+0.613 of 138higher is better

SP+ is an independent opponent-adjusted efficiency rating, one of the systems blended into the Blue Chip Analytics power rating rather than a Blue Chip Analytics number itself. Defensive SP+ measures points allowed, so a lower figure is a better defence - the rank beside it already accounts for that.

How Confident Is This Rating?

Sources blended5
Source spread±6.7 pts
HFA measured+3.0 pts
HFA applied+2.7 pts

Source spread is how far apart the independent rating systems are on this team, not a margin of error on our own number. A wide spread means the models disagree, which is itself worth knowing.

The measured and applied home field advantage agree to within 0.4 points here, so smoothing changes little for this venue.

Tulane Green Wave Season Outlook

New leadership, familiar faces

Will Hall takes over as head coach after Jon Sumrall left for Florida, and he has kept much of the roster and staff intact. Six of the top ten tacklers from last season return, including safety Jack Tchienchou, who had 83 tackles and was the defensive MVP of the American title game, and linebacker Chris Rodgers, who had 80 tackles and a pick-six in that game. The continuity is a big reason Tulane is expected to contend for a fifth straight conference title game appearance.

Backfield is the engine

Jamauri McClure emerged late last season, averaging 98 rushing yards and 6.5 yards per carry over the final five games, and he headlines a deep running back room. Maurice Turner, who won the starting job last year before a high ankle sprain in the opener, is back, and Florida State transfer Jaylin Lucas adds another versatile option. All three can catch passes out of the backfield, which should fit Hall's offensive system well.

Quarterback question looms

The biggest uncertainty is under center. Zeon Chriss-Gremillion, a dual-threat transfer from Houston, and Kadin Semonza, who had strong numbers at Ball State in 2024 but was third string at Tulane last year, are competing for the starting job. The offense has playmakers around them, but if the quarterback play is only average, it could limit how far this team goes.

Special teams and defense have questions

Kicker Jackson Courville, a transfer from Ball State, made 26 of 34 field goals over the 2023 and 2024 seasons, including two from beyond 50 yards in 2024, so he should be reliable. Punting is a concern, though Jaylin Lucas could provide a boost in the return game. On defense, the line lost five players to Power 4 programs, but the staff believes the depth is strong enough to avoid a major drop-off. Linebacker Dickson Agu, who was leading the team in tackles before tearing his ACL in the fifth game last year, is a key piece to watch as he returns.
